UWA v Demons 6-3

13/02 Always a danger game after the mouse racing night. There was one withdrawal just before game time when I got a message Brittany was in hospital. We started slowly and trailled until the sixth when we tied the game and then finally got ahead in the seventh. Player of the game goes to Claire for her 2 hits from 3 at bats which has elevated her up the batting table with a .500 OBP.

UWA v Eastern Districts 10-5

6/02 A good day with the bat - 12 hits all up, including home runs to Brittany and Tanielle. Lauren didn't have her best day pitching and we were a bit tardy in the field giving up 5 runs to a team down the ladder. Player of the game honours shared between Brittany (2 hits, including a home run), Tanielle (2 hits, including a home run) and Rachel (3 hits). A little disappointing that our first suicide squeeze signal for the year was not executed by either the batter or the runner.

UWA v Twin City Lakers 6-1

16/01 Lauren's strike percentage was down (understandable after the break), but she held Lakers to just three hits and a run and picked up 4 strike outs along the way. Lauren is cruising along with an ERA just above one which is a fantastic effort for someone who didn't regard herself as a front line pitcher before the season. Just about everybody hit with 2 hits for debutant Michelle, Tanielle, Claire, Sarah and Brittany. It is pleasing to see some of the recently promoted players proving they are up to the task in A2s. The highlight for me was probably Sarah's triple. We lost a few runners on base and can definitely improve on that for finals, but on the whole it was good effort. The scoreline may flatter us somewhat given that Twin City finished the game with 8 players after Sarah took out the catcher at home plate when we had just got ahead 2-1.

Nandos Subiaco voucher goes to Lauren for another solid outing.

UWA v Carine 12-6

19/12 We were well and truly embarrased in the first inning having gone 3 up 3 down with two strikeouts and then struggled to make an out as Carine played some team softball and scored 5 runs (only one of them earned). The girls settled well after that making outs and clawing back runs. Tied at 6-6 after 5 innings we played some entertaining ball in 6th piling on 6 hits and forcing 2 errors to allow 6 runs across the plate.

Lauren again pitched well with only 2 earned runs in 6 innings. With the bat, Ellice went 4-4 in her first A2 game back and Lauren picked 3 hits and a walk. Rachel had a hit, a walk and a sacrifice bunt and Tanielle, Meg, Sarah and Kym each picked up a single.

Ash's parents have been officially banned from attending future games as our on-base queen struck out swinging 4 times.

Player of the game (Nando's Subiaco voucher) is a joint one this week, going to both Lauren and Ellice.

We enter the long break with a 7-1-1 record.

UWA v BYE

12/12 BYE

UWA v Jaguars 7-0

5/12 A closer game than it might first appear as we scored 2 in the first, 1 in the third and 4 in the fifth. Lauren brought her "A" game with her, pitching brilliantly (75% strikes) and giving up no runs even after the bases were loaded with none out in the first. With the bat Lauren picked up a 3-run home run, a single and a sacrifice fly for 5 RBIs. Ash had 2 hits and a walk, Tracy a hit and a walk and Tanielle a hit. Our record now sits at 6W 1L 1D and we are probably sitting somewhere in the top 3 with Twin City Lakers and Bedford. We are going to have to lift our batting and be more aggressive in the field if we are to continue to be competitive with the better teams in A2s.

UWA v Bedford 7-0

28/11 UWA A2 Women's Softball win via forfeit

UWA v Rookies 4-9

21/11 Tanielle had a fantastic game pitching six innings without walking a batter and even getting a strike out to earn herself a beer and the Nandos Subiaco voucher for player of the game. She also picked up 3 of our 6 hits along the way. Sarah and Rachel each picked up a hit and a walk, Ash and Amy each had 2 walks and Meg a hit. Against pretty ordinary opposition we were far from our best with the bat and in the field

UWA v Demons 4-1

14/11 Sadly, Monica's last outing for the Club.

Monica gave up only an unearned run in 6 innings and collected 5 Ks along the way. After Ash walked and stole second, Meg singled in the run and the game was tied at 1-1 for the first four and a half innings. In the bottom of the fifth we got the first two batters on, but then missed two bunt signals. With 2 out Tracy doubled scoring a run and Sarah singled scoring 2 runs giving us a 4-1 lead.

On the day Tracy picked up 2 hits and Tanielle, Meg, Sarah, Rachel and Claire each got 1. Ash again showed her eye collecting 2 walks to continue her stellar season getting on base. Monica and Amy each picked up a walk. Whilst we didn't rack up the runs it was a fairly solid outing with the bat - the main negative being 4 standing Ks.

Life is about to get a whole lot harder!

Top 4 batters to date (OBP, SLG, OPS) min 12 PA:

Tamure (.583, .778, 1.361)
Ashley (.563, .300, .863)
Tanielle (.471, .467, .937)
Monica (.462, .500, .962)

UWA v Eastern Districts 3-0

7/11 A real pitchers duel. Monica pitched 6 shutout innings giving up only 3 hits and a walk while striking out 10! With the bat Tanielle picked up a double and single while Lauren, Rachel (2 RBIs) and Kelli each picked up a single. Ash, Meg and Claire each picked up a walk.

We missed a few signals and weren't able to execute a couple of bunts when we needed them. Something we can work on at training.

Great to get our first shutout of the year.

Top 5 batters to date (OBP, SLG, OPS):

Tamure (.583, .778, 1.361)
Ashley (.538, .333, .872)
Monica (.500, .625, 1.125)
Tanielle (.500, .500, 1.000)
Lauren (.417, .364, .780)

UWA v Ballajura 17-1

4/11 Despite querying the pitching distance with the umpires pre-game, it turned out that the game was played with a pitching distance of 46 feet instead of 40 feet. Fortunately, we spent most of the game batting. Monica gave up a hit and a walk for one run in 2 innings and Lauren shut out the last inning gving up only a walk.

In the batter's box it was our most discipled performance to date, combining for 7 hits, 7 walks and 4 HPBs. Tam starred with the bat picking up a triple, a double, a walk and a HPB. Ash picked up a hit and 2 walks and everyone got on base at some stage.

Great effort!

Top 5 batters to date (OBP, SLG, OPS):

Monica (.714, 1.000, 1.714)
Tamure (.636, .875, 1.511)
Ashley (.600, .429, 1.029)
Tanielle (.455, .333, .788)
Lauren (.444, .375, .819)

UWA v Carine 6-6

31/10 We faced a tough task against perennial nemisis Carine and their Senior A MVP pitcher from last year who gave up no walks.

Fiona made her A2 debut and pitched solidly picking up 3 Ks and allowing only 6 runs from 7 hits and 8 BB/HPBs in 4 1/3 innings. Lauren came in to close out the game with Ash throwing out a runner at home in the last to prevent a go-ahead run for Carine.

The heart of the lineup (Tanielle, Lauren and Sarah) each picked up 2 hits and Tam, Ash and Rachel each picked up a hit; Rachel's a triple. Disciplined batting and putting the ball in play to pressure Carine's field resulted in 6 runs.

Another pleasing effort.

UWA v Twin City Lakers 7-4

24/10 Storm clouds threatened and there was a bolt of lightening as we faced a team that played Senior A last year.

US student Monica, making her UWA debut, pitched well giving up only 2 earned runs over 6 innings and striking out 7 batters in difficult conditions. To secure top votes she got on base each at bat with a triple, a single and a walk. Ash picked up a hit, a walk, 2 stolen bases and scored twice. Tam picked up an infield hit and a walk as well as making some great plays at first to secure herself 3rd in the umpires votes. Overall our hitters were patient collecting 6 walks and that allowed us to score 7 runs in game where we had only 4 hits.

All-in-all a pleasing effort for the first game of the season.

In 1993, in what should have been the dying days of the Labor Government, John Hewson and the Opposition front bench taunted Keating for not having the courage to go to the polls early and put his government out of the nation's collective misery. Keating responded with the taunt that he "wanted do you slowly!" And sometimes it is those victories where you are not given a chance which taste the sweetest of all

B1 Women's Softball UWA 23 Morley 4

Taking on the bottom-placed Morley, it looks as though we had solid pitching from Fiona and Anne and good batting just about all around. It certainly seems to have been a day to boost batting stats. Player of the game goes to Caitlin for her 4 hits and a walk. Special mention to two others who didn't get out for the day - Kelli with 2 hits and 3 walks and Anne with 4 walks. Thanks to Bobbie for coaching on the day.

Our story begins in ancient greece on a cool summers eve... (Big Bang Theory fans will appreciate this line the rest of you should become Big Bang Theory fans) naught but 10 of our brave warriors survived the horrible tradgedy of mouse racing night (Great night btw thanks to all involved) and made it to the ground relatively unscathed... Dave's car however had some spew added to the paint work I hear =D
