A3 v Rookies

UWA 3 v Rookies 15

11/02/12 - Sore heads? Yes! Late nights? Yes! Enjoyed Mouse Racing? Yes!
Thanks to everyone who attended Mouse Racing last night. I think, from memory there were 6 of our 9 players there.

We started off the game really well, looking solid in all areas. First 2 innings we had 3 up, 3 down both when batting and fielding. Players taking good catches and making sure we got the outs. When we came up to bat we had solid hits and unfortunately our line drives got caught. They only got caught because of reflexes not because of skill.

From there the hangovers seemed to kick in and we started making errors. Rookies decided to hit and were getting runners on base and moving them around. They had loaded bases for quite some time and we couldn’t seem to make an out. Luckily the umpire helped us with an infield fly that our right fielder nearly caught. This made 2 out. Then Sarah took a catch at 2nd to finish the game.

Great first 2 innings girls, lets work on that for next week. Remember we have games on Saturday and Sunday.
See you there.

22/01/12 - While the A3's lost with a disapointing final score, it doesnt truly reflect on how we played as a whole. There was some good batting, where we were able to string some quality hits together. There was also some quality fielding happening in the outfield, however Jag's simply just hit too many quality safe hits with aggressive base running which we simply couldnt stop. It definitely proved to us that there is room for improvement in the field and the need to execute those crutial plays. Special mention to Kate Hicks who had some great fielding in left field and had some great hits. Bec behind the plate also had some run saving blocks behind the plate.

A big welcome back to Kelli and Ellice back who played like they never left, both getting on base and fielding well.

A3 v Demons

UWA 8 v Demons 0

14/01/12 - WOW what a fantastic game. All the hard work at training really paid off. UWA pantsed Demons 8 – 0.
A beautiful shut out by Didge (Tamara Kuipers) to end her season at UWA. We wish her all the very best for her move back to Geraldton and hope we can entice her down to play in the finals series.

All players batted very well and managed to move runners around the diamond and into scoring position. Smart base running and safe hits were impressive throughout the game. We had many fantastic plays and everyone was very solid in the field.

Unfortunately, the 'bench' managed to curse the no error game! Having a conversation about how everyone was playing so well and hadn't made any errors. Well late in our last fielding dig there were 2 errors. Luckily these didn't bring in any runs.

Player of the day goes to Didge – great job on the mound! Play of the day was a double play by Claire Chesson and Kym Warnsborough. Claire took a great catch in right field and then threw the runner out at first.

Great game by all.

A3 v Carine Cats

UWA 6 v Carine Cats 9

03/12/11 - UWA A3 are currently sitting 7th of 8 teams on the ladder. We were up against Carine Cats who are 2nd. UWA went out all guns blazing and managed to get 6-1 up. We then managed to hold this score twice when Carine had loaded bases.

Unfortunately when we came up to bat during the next 2 innings, didn’t score. Cats used this opportunity to claw their way back. Cats ended up winning 9 – 6.

Great game by all and it was impressive to see Cats so scared by our elite plays and great batting!!!
Well done to all that played. Good luck this weekend and next.

Please remember that I'm in Melbourne so if you can't play please contact Fiona.

A3 v Byford

UWA 14 v Byford 14

12/11/11 - This game started off looking very close. First innings both teams got 3 up, 3 down. Second dig Bedford got away from us scoring 2 runs to our 0. Once again they got 3 up 3 down when fielding. We then scored 3 to be ahead by 1.

Then the big innings came when they scored 10 runs and we didn’t score any. They had numerous safe hits to the outfield and a few people walked and this brought runs in.

Luckily we have a super side who decided to make a come back. We ended up hitting time and time again to move our players around the diamond. Special mention to Gabby for her 2 brilliant home runs, Geraldine and Sarah also hit one home run each. We were now in the lead 14 - 12.

Bedford managed to score 2 sneaky runs to tie the game. Our last at bat we managed to get players on base, but couldn’t bring them home.

Final score 14 -14. WHAT A MASSIVE COME BACK! Great game chicks ;-)

UWA 1 v Rookies 15

05/11/11 - Well if you read the A Grade report you will know that we got soaking wet! When is this rain going to stop? Softball is a summer sport!

Unfortunately, we faced a very strong team and got slapped around again this week. I think our first two games have been against the top two sides in the A3 competition. I'm confident that with practice, dedication and team work we will become competitive.

Hats off to Gabby who hit a MASSIVE ball out over centre fields head. Biggest hit I've seen in a long time. Unfortunately Gabby got tagged out at home plate. I told her to run and she did everything right. Gab, it was my bad call, you should be very proud of your hit. In my books this was a home run.

Not only did Gabby hit, she also took some great catches. Not that I'm counting, but I think she caught 4/5 balls that went to CF.

This was very much a Gabby game as she got majority of the play. Poor Geraldine had a no play game. Thanks for coming out and joining in Geraldine ;-)

Flic did well behind the plate catching to Kym B. It certainly looks difficult pitching and catching in the wet, well done chicks. Kate, you are our one and only run across the plate. Super cheeky base running, I like it!

This week at training we'll be working on batting to live pitches, we need to focus on swinging at strikes only. Here's to a win this coming weekend.

Keep up the hard work ladies, hopefully we have some dry weather on Saturday and have a win to go with it ;-)

UWA 1 v Carine Cats 11

22/10/11 - WOW! What a day to be playing softball!

We could have asked for better weather and we could ask for a better result, but we couldn't ask for a better bunch of chicks!
We went onto the diamond with enthusiasm and determination and everyone played right until the end. At no point in time did any of the players drop their heads or decide that we didn't have a chance. This is a fantastic attitude to have and it makes for good team moral, great job chicks.

Throughout the game there were several catches made, well done to all who made catches. Special mention to Timmo who managed to swear as she was making the catch. Gabbie took her catch with much more control and less fowl language. Kym's catch was scary and looked more like an ice-cream, she had everyone worried yet managed to do it with a very big smile, great job.

Trace was the only player who managed to make an error, and what an error it was! Huge over through from short stop to first. I think they are still trying to find the ball as it went so far.

Trying to make up for her mistake Trace nearly rolled a double play, only to have the umpires call both runners safe. RIPPED OFF!!!

Kym pitched well and needs to be given credit for her efforts in the wet. The ball was super slippery and this made it very difficult to control.

Bec worked hard to improved her batting, pitch after pitch she got better. First at bat she got struck out swinging at pitches well over her head. During the at bats to follow she was far more disciplined and only swung at strikes. Bec, great job adjusting.

Going into the last dig we were 11 – 0 down, it wasn't a pretty score line, but we were trying hard to make the outs and get safe hits. It just wasn't all coming together.
Drastic measures were needed so we could keep our pants on.

The pep talk was a threat. "If we don't score this innings we have to do a nudie run around the diamond because we will have been pantsed!".
With that many of us starting looking at our nickers, to see if what were were wearing was suitable to run around in. There was a huge laugh and a comment from a player; whom will remain nameless: "I'm wearing a lacy g-string"

We talked tactics about how to run in a g-string with no shorts on and what everyone else would think, then we got onto how we were going to score a run.

Each and every player took it upon themselves to do the right thing. We batted one after the other, moving players around the bases. Finally we scored 1 run ;-)
Everyone was very relieved, especially Bec, when I yelled out from the coaches box "Luckily you all get to keep your pants on!"

So that basically ended the game 11 – 1.

Thanks to all our players who came down to fill in. This is greatly appreciated and we wouldn't have been able to field a side without you.

Great thanks goes to all our spectators who managed to brave the weather and support us during the rainy, stormy game. Thanks heaps to Amy for scoring and not bitching about having to do it in the rain.

I'll see you all at training on Tuesday to work on batting. Looking forward to having a drink with everyone at the Halloween party on Thursday.

Well done to everyone, looking forward to the next game on November 5th.
