09/02/11 - After the Wednesday before with 16 K's Barb was out to break her record. Barb pulled muscle in her leg very early in the game however with the injury she still had 15k's! Facing a loopy pitcher there should have been more disapline in the batting box and more runs on the board early but it wasn't the case. Breakers brought on there top pitcher to end the game.

19/01/11 - Difficult game against the Cats with three state players in the opposition. Two safe hits to Mel and one hit to Fiona. Strong pitching again by Barb with a number of K's. Barb had a home run hit off her only to strike out the batter the next time she came up to bat.
Special mention to Sarah
1) forgetting she had the helmets and wondering who had them
2) for injuring herself walking to the batting box.

18/12/10 - This week was certainly going to bring some interesting challenges to the A2 team. Having forfeited the last two games we really needed to bring our A game and pull off a win. I had been planning the line up since Thursday night, running all the options over and over again. Realising that we may need a relief pitcher, I contacted Nielle and Fiona. Both said “I haven’t pitched all season, what good am I going to be?!” But of course they were willing to try their best if needed.

Luckily, Melody came up from C grade to pitch for us. We were hoping that with Melody’s speed and accuracy the opposition wouldn’t be able to hit her. This was so very true. For the first 3 innings no one got safe hits. Melody you have a great attitude towards the game and with practice and dedication you will become a great pitcher. Looking forward to playing with you for years to come.

To keep the infield solid, we had regulars in Nielle (catching), Britt (1st) and Sarah (2nd). I went to short stop and made 2 errors. Also made Sarah look bad when fielded a ball really close to second, managed to bungle the double play.

Bobbie Hovey decided she would give 3rd base a crack, and she did a great job turning a couple of tag plays into outs. Glad to have you back Bobs.

Outfield had experience and talent with Claire (LF), Fiona (CF) and Danni (RF). Ash, thanks for your dedication and preparation in training on how to call for outfield fly balls. You would be so proud with all the outfielders efforts in innings 1- 4, 6 and 7. Unfortunately we failed to execute the lesson during inning 5.

At this point a sitter was hit high between centre field and right field. This is where things went a little wrong, Fiona and Danni crashed into each other, dropping the catch. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen on the softball diamond. Luckily on one was seriously injured. Well that was until Danni got home and discovered a giant bruise.

We did manage to execute a fantastic outfield relay. Fiona received the ball in centre field, pegged it to Trace at short stop who launched it home. This is where Nielle was waiting and tagged the runner out. All aspects of the play looked perfect. Well done chicks ;-)

When batting we showed control, strength and enthusiasm. Everyone got on base, we moved the runners around and people were mashing the ball. During my little pep talk before the game, I included a friendly threat: “if you get struck out and don’t swing then, you owe me a carton of beer.” This seemed to work a treat as we had only one KC. Britt – you owe me a carton, I like Carona. Looking forward to sharing it with all who played in this game.

Very sorry to hear of Claire Forsythe’s retirement after she hit a BOMB ;-) Britt Edgar also hit a great BOMB. Since she has hit so many in the past she’s decided to keep playing.

I could go on and on as everyone played super well and really showed the talent that we have at UWA. It was a pleasure coaching chicks who want to play well, play well as a team, give each other encouragement, laugh at each other and who want to win. Thanks to each and every player who stepped up to bring in a 10 – 4 win.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

13/11/10 - The girls had a tough day in the office facing the 2nd placed Carine Cats going down 6 to 0. I am super proud of the girls as they fought hard all day and impressed Cale and myself as fill in coaches!!! Barb pitched a great game with Flick doing a job behind the plate. Tracy had a nice base knock and Kelli got unlucky smoking one to the pitcher who caught it with her eyes shut. Defence was solid (Sarah gets 10 style points for her double play attempt!!) and the fighting attitude of the girls was outstanding (Nicki J had a nice catch and Big Red saved extra bases in right field). The difference on the day was Carine strung some hits together where as ours were sporadic. Fantastic signs for the season that is unfolding and I wish the girls all the best - Stillo

17/03/12 - "Almost Perfect" It was if the universe was aligned just for us on Saturday.
