WB v South Perth

UWA 11 v South Perth 12

20/11/11 - So the chicks went down again today but not without a fight... Although they didn't really give themselves a fighting chance, it came down to the last innings before the South Perth shoe wearers took the lead and clinched the game. A game for the ages from Brittany Wescombe who threw the game of her career (over 130 pitches) to hold the dangerous SP shoe wearers to a meager 12 runs. She also set the tone with the bat, blasting a montorous home run and driving another to centre for a double. Tanielle and Penny also hit HR and Ellen went close with a cunning shot to the left side. All the girls were solid in the field - Penny made some great plays at SS, Tanielle hosed a few from CF (that chick has a cannon...). Pike solid on the score book.

Well done girls... victory is not far away.

WB v West Stirling

UWA 2 v West Stirling 11

09/01/11 - After playing the best game they have played all season against Vic Park before the Christmas break and only going down by 1 run, the girls were a touch disappointing in their first game back this week, going down 11-2 to West Stirling, in a tough day due to the heat. Fielding and baserunner was great and a special mention to Lara and Rachael Carr who were both great in these areas. Hopefully the bats will fire this week against Melville.

WB v Curtin

UWA 2 v Curtin 30

05/12/10 - In the absence of coach Buckley and with only 8.5 players, it was always going to be a tough day at the office for the girls. Despite this, we managed to score a run in each of the first two innings, the first coming thanks to Britt's triple shot to centre. Unfortunately, Brit's ankle came off second best as she slid into 3rd but to her credit she fought through the pain and played on. Rachel put in a huge effort on the mound but the Curtin hitters were just too strong. Tanielle came in and relieved before Britt finally took over for the last two outs of the game.

Special mentions to Ash, Rachael and especially Brooke who hunted everything down in the outfield and made a great catch at 2nd to end a long innings.

Thanks to Trace and Taneille for filling in. We have a bye next weekend but will come back stronger against Vic Park in the last game before Christmas.

WB v West Stirling

UWA 3 v West Stirling 12

28/11/10 - Girls played well, going down 12-3 to West Stirling. 1 ugly innings where we made a couple of errors an they got a few back to back hits and scored 9 runs was the turning point in what was otherwise a very competitive low scoring game. Was great to see some of our quieter players in Abbie, Peter and Lara getting some hits and scoring. New recruit Claire was a power hitter and great shortstop and Caitlin was a star in the outfield. Big game this week against Curtin, to see if we can be competitive with a top 4 side

WB v Meville Braves

UWA 4 v Meville Braves 10

21/11/10 - Lost 10-4. Vast improvement on the first time we played them. Good catching and pitching by Brit and Rachel. Fielding was good, and hitting has improved. Girls still have lots of work to truly be competitive with some of the stronger teams, so let's all get down training for some hard work this week

WB v Victoria Park

UWA 3 v Victoria Park 13

31/10/11 - Up against last years premiers Vic Park, and having not scored a run in 3 weeks. The girls were set the goal of scoring a run this week. Brit took the pill to start the game and for a first time pitcher threw a great game, only walking 4 players and striking out the same number. The fielding has improved a lot, with few errors and a great double play being rolled. Hitting as a team was fantastic this week, with plenty of runners getting on, but too many base running errors cost us from capitalising on this. The girls will be working on running and sliding at training. Tennille Stivey called a great game, her leadership and experience behind the dish was invaluable. Vic Park got away from us early, purely through good hitting. Reminded of their goal before the fourth innings, the girls came up trumps, not only scoring 1 run off a great hit by Cassie they went on to score another two off a monster double by Caitlin. Unfortunately going down 3-13, the team will be looking to improve on this result this week against league leaders Morley. Get down to Simms field/Crimea Park early for a 9:30 game.

WB v Curtin

UWA 0 v Curtin 13

Great effort by the girls on Sunday despite the narrow 13-0 loss to Curtin. Despite 3 runs being scored of a play that will never happen again would have reduced the game to 10-0.

Pikey started out well on the mound throwing some good pitches and letting the field do the work. Eyvette came in to experience the mound for her first time in a while and did a great job and gained some good experience. Tanielle caught well all day including an awesome double play on loaded bags off a full swing bunt.

All the girls did great in the box, some really good at bats against great pitching. Cassie won an awesome at bat which was 8+ pitches, Peta had her first hit for the year. Britt went deep but with was caught by the out of positioned centre fielder.

Please try and make the effort to come down and cheer the girls on as all things are heading in the right direction for their first win for the season.

Well done girls, a win is just around the corner.

WB v Melville Braves

UWA 0 v Melville Braves 20

10/10/10 - Well we knew that Melville would be a tough game and unfortunately this was the case. Facing an experienced team stacked with state players, our plan from the start was to just have fun! Britt Edgar started off a bit shaky, but by the end of the 3rd had found her zone.

We did well in the field defensively, with a couple of great plays (including fantastic catches in the outfield to Caitlin Howard, Vette Prosper and Brooke Evatt). Our batting was forgettable, but understandable when facing a state pitcher! We have a lot of room for improvement, conceding 10 K from only 13 AB as a team, with Rachel Pike getting our only hit for the game.

Most importantly we still had smiles on our faces at the end of the game! Looking forward to Derby Day next Sunday at home against Curtin.

WB v Swans

UWA 9 v Swans 13

3/10/10 - A fantastic team effort saw the UWA girls come from a 7 run deficit to be in a position to win the ball game in the last innings.

Ably lead by the battery of Rachel Pike and Tannielle Stivey, who pitched and caught the whole game between the two of them. They were backed up by enthusiastic fielders in all positions. A great display of power hitting, once the nerves had settled, allowed UWA to face three pitchers from Swans. The sings are very positive for UWA Womens baseball to have a very successful year
