A v Morley Eagles

UWA 0 v Morley Eagles 2

11/02/12 - After a great night at mouse racing there were a few tired people. Luckily no one was severely hung over.

Barb pitched a great game, striking out 10 batters. Morley managed to get some runners on base, then a few lucky steals to put their batters in scoring position. Two hits to the outfield brought their runners in home. This all happened early in the game and we managed to hold them for the rest of it.

Unfortunately, once again, our batting let us down. A few nice hits to the outfield that were caught, ground outs to the infield and a few strike outs meant that we weren’t getting batters on base.

Well done to Kim Warnsborough for her lovely hit to the outfield. Kim managed to get to 3rd base, but we couldn’t bring her home.

Thanks very much to Claire, Kym and Gabby for playing up from A3. You all played well and managed to step up to the challenge of A Grade.

Batting practice at training on Thursday. Let’s get everyone at training so we can start winning games and hopefully make training. Remember we have games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week.

What can I say!!! We need to start batting, you can't win a ball game if you can't hit!
Let's hope everyone can get down to training. A3 proved that training helps your game.

19/11/11 - Saturday's game was a good test for our girls, going up against a Demons line-up including Jo Tester, one of the better A Grade pitchers in recent seasons. The girls started slowly, giving up a run on a defensive miscue in the 1st while going down in order over the first 2 innings.

The bats got going in the 3rd, with Kim Bramwell opening our account with an RBI triple down the left field line to kick off a 4 spot. Barb Sulerova and Mel May took over from there, doing a great job of keeping the Demons hitters off balance and throwing plenty of ground balls.

Another 4 spot followed in the 5th, with our girls keeping their composure over the final innings as the Demons players seemed to lose their cool. The girls were able to put the ball in play and make things happen, striking out just 3 times while remaining disciplined at the plate, taking half a dozen walks.

All in all, it was a great day for the A Grade girls to build some momentum for a big game against Carine this weekend. Finally, a big thank you to Kate Hicks, who filled in for us at 40 minutes notice and contributed greatly to a fantastic Uni win!

12/11/11 - Everyone helped put up the shade and was ready to warm up. I started to worry because Bobs hadn’t shown up yet, it’s not like her to be late to a game. So I pulled out my phone to call her when I realised I had missed a message. It read “I’m going to be late, super bad form, I’m happy for you to bench me.”
My reply was “sorry no can do, we only have 9, hurry up and get here.”

At that point I had no idea why she was running late. Bobs was possibly thinking I don’t was to play, I really wish there was a bench.
As it turns out Bobs was feeling a little worse for ware and needed to make an unforseen stop on the way to softball. She didn’t play as her usual chirpy self and looking at the scorebook it shows that her game was a little off, it was lucky she had a great Friday night. Bobs took the package during the fines session and needless to say this was due to the adventures of Friday night.

Throughout the game we had numerous people get on base due to disciplined batting, 5 BB, 7 safe hits and 1 sac fly. When fielding Barb was able to get the ball in play and had the field back her up.

A fantastic game which all players contributed to. Final score was 10 – 0. Great job chicks ;-)

09/11/11 - It was Senior A's first game back at Mirrabooka and Barb was ready to take on Carine Cats. It was only 1 inning's that resulted in UWA's defeat. Carine were held to no runs in all but one innings and that one innings, where Carine found the gaps and UWA errors was the difference in the game. Barb has 10 K's and was striking out 1 in three batters. Another fantastic catch to Kym Bramwell on first bag and a two bagger (which she tried to make a 3) showed how well Kim has settled into the team. Tanielle Stivey showed how useful she is as a fill in with the only other safe hit of the game.

05/11/11 - I THOUGHT THIS WAS A SUMMER SPORT!!!
What's with this weather? We aren't meant to get wet playing softball and yet two weeks in a row we've been drowned whilst playing!

There isn't much to say about this game other than we lost and we got very wet! Barb started pitching and with a waterlogged ball found it rather difficult. Unfortunately every time we were fielding it was pouring with rain, as soon as we started batting it stopped raining. Mel came in to relieve Barb and managed to end the game with a few strike outs.

Bobs did well in the box and managed to get on base every at bat. Her classic comment was "I think we should start stealing and bunting, just don't steal me."
Barbs classic comment was "I can't give signals, so I just pointed to Bobs then at second base, this was my signal for her to steal second. She shook me off and said no, so I pointed again. When the ball was pitched she started running, that's when I realised she was running but not moving anywhere. I now know why she shook me off."

Barb had a lovely 3 base hit that even amazed her. Didge managed 3 lovely outfield hits, unfortunately all got caught. Pip, was in the outfield and managed a no-play game. Trace Holding started at short stop and moved to catcher when Mel went in to pitch. It was nice watching Trace take control of the game from behind the plate. Kim, has a great stretch and played well at first.

Fi, started in left field and I don't think a single ball was hit out to her. As soon as we made a few changes and put Kym in left field that area was hot. Balls were flying out there every couple of batters. Kym took a great catch or two in left field.

Ellen, was in right field and stopped all balls that came her way and was super quick in backing up first. Great backing up at one Ellen! I see you running out there.

I love the spirit in which this team plays, they go out and enjoy the game whilst trying to win. It's a joy, even when we're getting wet.

Let's aim for a win on Wednesday night. We're playing Carine Cats and they always bring their A game. Remember safe hits to move your players around the bases will score runs.
GOOD LUCK ;-)

19/02/11 - Tough battle as always against Carine. Solid fielding with a great throw by Ash in center field to home and the tag made by Tanielle to protect our 1 run lead. A great bunt defence by Tanielle and Tracy to run down the girl running home. Another 3 bag hit to Fiona and a single to Tanielle to get the winning run in.
