UWA v CUR 11-10

10/01 Round 10 After leading 8-0 in four innings of great offensive and defensive baseball we succumbed to a fit of the fumbles to give up 6 runs in the 5th dig. Thom came in to relieve Bart on the hill and closed out the innings but we were a little stunned by how close the game was all of a sudden.

We failed to score in our half of the 5th and came out trying to defend a slender lead of only 2 runs. Curtin hitters were getting very selective and a tight strike zone lead to them levelling the score with bases loaded and 2 outs.

It was time for some slow junk to try and sneak a cheap out. The old fart (coach that is) did his usual HPB, then wild pitch to give Curtin a 2 run lead. A lucky strikeout ended the dig and I asked the boys how much of a backbone we really had.

With 2 outs and a runner on first the top of the line-up produced 3 great clutch hits to steal the game by one run. It was a great game to be a part of and a wonderful team effort - just let's eliminate the fumbles and win with less pressure next time.

UWA v KAL 29-9

13/12 Round 9 A good effort given the heat and with Kalamunda only fielding 8 players (4 of them PL1 players) we could have slackened off. Instead we scored 16 runs in the first dig to take control of the game.

Although we gave up 9 runs (2 home runs to one guy...) we still managed 16 hits, numerous walks and only 3 K's - a much better performance from the whole batting line-up.

Bart did well on the hill, especially striking out their home run hitter in his last 2 at bats.

Enjoy the break - have a safe and happy festive season and remember - when we return on the 10th Jan only those who have paid fees will play.

UWA v CAR 5-11

6/12 Round 8 UWA Baseball PLR2. A fantastic job on the hill from Al Reid kept the Carine hitters at bay. 9 strikeouts, 5 hits and a couple of errors/walks saw them get nine base runners for the day.

Our ten hits put pressure on them and although we left 9 on base we came up with hits when it really counted.

We still need to improve with the lower half of the line-up not contributing as it should, but defensively we played a great game. Thanks to Macca as well as Al for their efforts.

UWA v ROC 5-11

29/11 Round 7 We were doing well for the first 2 innings but again, we let the opposition have too many free base runners. Stillo did a great job as lead-off hitter, going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's. What should have been 4-1 to us after 2 digs ended up 4-3 and we lost momentum. The bottom half of the line-up went missing and Rockingham enjoyed Stillo's curve balls.

Although we were out hit they had a couple of line drives not quite sticking in the gloves of Ryan and Shane. If we had caught them........ Too many if's and not enough hits of our own.

UWA v KEL 11-10

22/11 Round 6 A tough game - one that got away. Leading by 2 in the last dig we couldn't hold Kelmscott at bay and gave up 3 runs.

Nevertheless, it was a vast improvement on last week's effort with some great clutch hitting from Clint, Ryan, Bart, AJ and especially Li. His 2 hits were the reason we got ahead in the top of the 5th. On top of that he looked comfortable at 2nd base with a couple of good plays. MVP for the day - Shuai Li.

Thom walked the first 2 batters then fought back with some honest, hard pitching. Bart took over in the 3rd and if it wasn't for that one play........ who knows what could have happened.

Whichever, we look forward very much to a rematch (on home soil) to make amends. Bring it on.

UWA v EH 16-2

15/11 Round 5 A very lacklustre game and hard to get enthused about but we came away with a win.

Dave did the job on the hill and we did enough in the batter's box to never be challenged.

The only real highlight was Clint's home run over (a very short) leftfield. We need to knuckle down in the next 3 weeks against better teams.

UWA v BAL 2-10

8/11 Round 4 After a promising start scoring 2 runs in the first innings we threw away our advantage with 9 "free" base runners on top of 4 errors to give Balcatta a comfortable win. We also left 9 runners on base, plus the 2 that were picked off so we were never going to win, BUT.....

The team attitude and confidence was never questioned. We had some great at bats to get on base, waiting for the right pitch, fouling off some then putting some pressure on their field. The newcomers showed great improvement in learning what to do when and how. Although Bart had an off day, Thom did well in relief, giving up just 2 runs and striking out 2. Ricky again was solid behind the mask while Ryan caught or stopped everything that came near him.

Let's hope injuries to Rich and Jason aren't too serious and that we give Eastern Hills a tough time next week.

UWA v KAL 19-4

1/11 Round 3 Dave Stivey had his first start for the season and did a great job keeping Kalamunda to 4-5 hits 3 walks and (I think) 9 strikeouts. Our defence looked solid all day (thanks to Clint for helping out at right field). Mostyn and Matt controlled the middle infield and Tim did well behind the mask.

Our batting was a bit spasmodic, scoring no runs in the 1st, 4th and 6th digs but 7, 6 & 6 in the others.

We need to work on our batting a bit more if we are going to give Balcatta a run for their money next week.

UWA v CUR 15-0

25/10 Round 2 A very different line-up with Benny coming in to pitch and Bucks playing his first game after volleyball commmitments. After 2 innings we were looking shaky at 1-0. Curtin made the most of their chances and we were in cruise control. In the third dig we blew the game apart with 9 runs, thanks to lots of walks but some good hits thrown in as well.

Benny threw a no hitter and bamboozled the opposition. Shane and Ricki shared duties behind the mask - both doing a great job and (apart from one error) the defense looked solid.

Ryan starred with the bat (3 from 4 with a home run) Dave chipped in with a homer and 2 good plays at 3rd. No triathalon next week so we should all be there on time!!!

UWA v ROC 14-3

18/10 Round 1 With a new look line up from last year the PL2's could be excused for a little nervousness - but they settled together in a groove very quickly with returning clubman Bart pitching four impressive innings and new recruit Ricky (Bobby) catching. Solid middle infielding from Ryan, an on fire Fouhy and pop fly specialist Liam avoided any continuous offence by Rockingham.

Patient batting allowed us to draw a few walks and well located hits from the inconsistent Rockingham pitching - but hard hits up the middle to new comers Sam and Rich was an exciting insight into the future of this team.

Congratulations on the win guys - lets keep working hard and back it up next week against Curtin.

Provincial League 1 UWA 17 BAL 6

In 1993, in what should have been the dying days of the Labor Government, John Hewson and the Opposition front bench taunted Keating for not having the courage to go to the polls early and put his government out of the nation's collective misery. Keating responded with the taunt that he "wanted do you slowly!" And sometimes it is those victories where you are not given a chance which taste the sweetest of all

A2 Women's Softball UWA 6 Demons 3

Always a danger game after the mouse racing night. There was one withdrawal just before game time when I got a message Brittany was in hospital. We started slowly and trailled until the sixth when we tied the game and then finally got ahead in the seventh. Player of the game goes to Claire for her 2 hits from 3 at bats which has elevated her up the batting table with a .500 OBP.

B1 Women's Softball UWA 23 Morley 4

Taking on the bottom-placed Morley, it looks as though we had solid pitching from Fiona and Anne and good batting just about all around. It certainly seems to have been a day to boost batting stats. Player of the game goes to Caitlin for her 4 hits and a walk. Special mention to two others who didn't get out for the day - Kelli with 2 hits and 3 walks and Anne with 4 walks. Thanks to Bobbie for coaching on the day.

B3 Women's Softball UWA Morley

Our story begins in ancient greece on a cool summers eve... (Big Bang Theory fans will appreciate this line the rest of you should become Big Bang Theory fans) naught but 10 of our brave warriors survived the horrible tradgedy of mouse racing night (Great night btw thanks to all involved) and made it to the ground relatively unscathed... Dave's car however had some spew added to the paint work I hear =D
